Ep. 38 Go Auto presents Ford Falcon EcoLPi

Dec 12 2011

The great Australian family car has somewhat fallen by the wayside in recent years but the new Ford Falcon EcoLPi might just be the car to turn that all around.

Right now, big car sales are way down, with more buyers choosing four-cylinder economy over six-cylinder power and space so the future of the traditional Aussie-made big ‘6’ like the Falcon and Commodore isn’t looking very rosy at all.

But Ford, helped by WA’s Orbital engine systems experts, is fighting back with the EcoLPi.

In most previous LPG cars, the fuel needed to turn from liquid to vapour to burn but that process always resulted in less power and much higher consumption.

With EcoLPi, though, Ford and Orbital have created an engine that keeps LPG in a liquid state right up to the combustion process, for much more efficient and cleaner performance.

The Falcon is also fitted with an advanced 6-speed automatic transmission which means quicker acceleration and improved over-taking performance across all driving conditions.

Plus, with LPG averaging 66 cents per litre against $1.40 for regular unleaded petrol the savings are phenomenal and there is less carbon pollution too because of the very nature of LPG.

The LPG tanks take up a bit of space in the boot of the Falcon but if you can live with a smaller boot, the EcoLPi now makes more sense than buying the regular petrol version, and is a better car to drive.

And if you take advantage of the Federal Government’s LPG rebate, the price of choosing EcoLPi drops from $2500 to just $500.
